A Pre-Thanksgiving Post
It's been a month. Ouch.
I would hate for my blog to become the sort of public diary that one finds on Xanga sites or IM away messages (though it could be argued that would be better than month-long silences). However, I have not experienced much this semester to provoke the kind of scintillating thoughtfulness that would warrant a blog post. My classes are just... boring. Constitutional Law, yay. Historical Research Methods, or How to Become a Frumpy, Hermit-like Historian Before Your 25th Birthday. Marvelous.
This should change next semester, but until it does, the interesting-bloggable-thoughts part of my brain is going to take a little nap. And I am going to write to my long-lost readership about the doings of my life.
A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of attending a Dresden Dolls concert at the Black Cat here in DC. It was a great show at a fun venue -- although our group was decked out in hipster wear, and the majority of the crowd turned out to be high-school goths in their Halloween best... next time, believe me, I'll just wear black (my preference) and maybe sort of fit into both crowds. We came back tired and happy and reeking of the cigarrette smoke that infused the place, but a good time, I believe, was had by all. The band hails from Boston, and -- a nice touch for the evening -- the Red Sox won the World Series during the concert, and the win was announced from stage.
In other fun and interesting happenings, I saw The Yes Men at the E Street Cinema in downtown DC a few weeks ago. It's an irreverent but absolutely mind-blowing documentary about a couple of anti-corporate activists who literally go around the world impersonating WTO spokesmen at international business conferences -- and get away with it! One of the most incredible, unbelievable, and downright funny things I have seen in a very long time. The movie poster has been added to our amazing door-collage.
That's probably enough cultural name-dropping for one evening. Leave me a comment if you still frequent my blog.
