Pink Floyd Nostalgia
If you didn't care what happened to me,
And I didn't care for you,
We would zig zag our way through the boredom and pain
Occasionally glancing up through the rain.
Wondering which of the buggars to blame
And watching for pigs on the wing.
You know that I care what happens to you,
And I know that you care for me.
So I don't feel alone,
Or the weight of the stone,
Now that I've found somewhere safe
To bury my bone.
And any fool knows a dog needs a home,
A shelter from pigs on the wing.
And I didn't care for you,
We would zig zag our way through the boredom and pain
Occasionally glancing up through the rain.
Wondering which of the buggars to blame
And watching for pigs on the wing.
You know that I care what happens to you,
And I know that you care for me.
So I don't feel alone,
Or the weight of the stone,
Now that I've found somewhere safe
To bury my bone.
And any fool knows a dog needs a home,
A shelter from pigs on the wing.

No offense - and maybe I'm just obtuse - but what's the point of this post?
Don't be ignorant. If you must be, don't broadcast it. Keep it to yourself. At home. With the door locked.
No, seriously. I'm not much for retro music. What is this song saying? I really want to know.
The lyrics are from Pink Floyd's 1977 album, Animals. The picture is the album's cover. The entire album is inspired by Orwell's Animal Farm, but can be taken more broadly as an indictment against war, the politics of the day, nihilistic viewpoints, and a bevy of other modernistic evils. Thus the album cover. The rest of the interpretation is up to you, the reader, especially as I have pulled these lyrics considerably out of context. I like them out of context... knowing the background explains too much. They are here to produce a mood, to induce reflection, to provoke thought... not to force any particular message.
Beyond that, the only thing I have to add is that the post was somewhat indirectly inspired by Micah Towery's excellent (and far better-tended) blog, http://www.xanga.com/home.aspx?user=ottorinophc.
